The bill would also mandate a study by the State Board of Education to find out how Pennsylvania school districts are teaching AAPI curricula across the state.
Additionally, it will ensure students receive robust instruction in AAPI history and social contributions.
“I have received numerous letters from constituents expressing safety concerns given the rise in attacks on Asian Americans since COVID and calling for education to address these biases before they take root,” said Senator Collette.
“This bill is an important first step in ensuring that our education system reflects the entire history of our people,” Collette added.
According to the latest Stop the National AAPI Hate ReportPennsylvania ranked seventh in hate incident reports filed between March 2020 and December 2021.
Florida, ranked eighth, became the latest state to pass AAPI-inclusive curriculum legislation into law in May 2023.
