China is keen to strengthen cooperative ties with Pakistan

China has said it is ready to fully support Pakistan, strengthen cooperative ties, deepen strategic coordination and accelerate the construction of a close China-Pakistan community with a common future in the new era.

These views were expressed by the spokesperson of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to journalists’ questions during the briefing session regarding the visit of Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to China on Tuesday.

He said that the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif, made an official visit to China from 4 to 8 June. This was Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif’s first visit to China after he assumed the post of Prime Minister of Pakistan for the second term and he was warmly welcomed by China.

During his visit to China, he met with President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and Chairman Zhao Liji. Where the leaders of the two countries had a detailed discussion on Pakistan-China relations and issues of common concern and provided strategic guidance for the development of Pakistan-China relations.

At the meeting, President Xi Jinping emphasized that the strategic cooperative partnership between China and Pakistan has continuously deepened in every season, with a strong public opinion base, strong internal driving force and broad development potential.

The spokesman added that China is ready to fully support Pakistan, strengthen cooperative relations, deepen strategic coordination and accelerate the construction of a close China-Pakistan community with a common future in the new era.

He said on the occasion of his visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that no force can weaken the iron friendship between China and Pakistan and Pakistan will become China’s most reliable friend and partner.

He said the parties agreed that they would continue to fully support each other on matters relating to their core interests and major concerns. The parties also appreciated the positive role of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor in promoting Pakistan’s national development and improving the welfare of the Pakistani people.

The spokesman further said that in order to promote high-quality joint construction of the “Belt and Road Project” and Pakistan’s development plan, to maintain practical cooperation in various fields according to local conditions, and to promote high-quality joint construction the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor to create an “upgraded version” of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor as a hub to better support Pakistan’s economic and social development.

The spokesman said that the government of Pakistan has once again expressed its deepest condolences to the Chinese officers who were killed in the Dasu terrorist attack on March 26, stressing that it will take strict action against the terrorists involved in the case and arrest them seriously and take practical and effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, projects and institutions in Pakistan.

In another question and answer, the spokesperson said that the Pakistani delegation along with Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that President Xi Jinping’s excellent foresight and leadership have been sincerely appreciated by the people of Pakistan and around the world. President Xi Jinping’s proposed construction of the “Belt and Road” project and the three major global initiatives that consider the welfare of all humanity are strategic to promote global peace, security, development and prosperity.

During the visit, the parties signed 23 cooperation documents related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, transport infrastructure, agriculture, industry, intergovernmental cooperation, market surveillance, geographical survey and mapping, media, film and television, etc.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also visited Shenzhen, Xi’an and other cities. He praised China’s achievements in economic and social development and expressed willingness to strengthen the exchange of experience in governance with China.
