The lower house of the French Parliament passed a bill to prevent discrimination in the workplace based on hair texture. Most black women in France have faced discrimination.

Member of Parliament Oliver Serova said that any discrimination in the workplace based on hairstyle, colour, length or texture would be punished after the bill was passed.

About 20 US states have similar laws that identify hair discrimination as an expression of racism.

In the UK, the Equality and Human Rights Commission has published guidelines against discrimination on hair quality in schools.
