Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called a meeting today on the situation in Azad Kashmir

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called a meeting today on the current situation in Azad Kashmir.

Sources say that a high level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister of the UK will be held at the Prime Minister’s House this morning. Representatives from the Government of Azad Kashmir, Ministry of Interior and other high officials will participate.

Sources said that the meeting will discuss proposals to resolve the current situation of Azad Kashmir.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif contacted Azad Kashmir Chief Minister Anwar Haq over phone while taking note of the issue of public protest against expensive flour and electricity in Azad Kashmir.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the leadership of Azad Kashmir Muslim League (N) to hold talks with the Action Committee immediately.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also appealed to all parties to resolve the demands peacefully. He hoped the problem would be resolved soon.

The negotiations between the Muzaffarabad Joint Action Committee of Jammu and Azad Kashmir and the Government Committee failed. Azad Kashmir chief minister, senior minister, home minister and dignitaries participated in the discussions through video link.

The discussions were held at the residence of the Commissioner Rawla Kot, when the demand for the restoration of flour subsidy, a reduction in electricity rates and the removal of ministerial privileges were also included.

The People’s Joint Action Committee demanded that electricity should be provided to the consumers in Azad Kashmir at the cost of production, the Gilgit flour subsidy should be abolished, and bureaucracy and other privileges should be abolished.
