The European Union has welcomed the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2735 for a ceasefire in Gaza and has supported the new ceasefire proposal announced on May 31.
At the same time, the head of European foreign affairs, Joseph Borrell, has said that the European Union calls for its immediate implementation as well as the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions 2728, 2720 and 2712.
The statement issued by European External Action further stated that the EU expressed its full support for the comprehensive road map presented by US President Joe Biden.
We encourage both parties to accept and implement the three-phase proposal, the statement added.
Joseph Borrell added that ‘the European Union is ready to restore the political process for a two-state solution and lasting peace and to support coordinated international efforts for the reconstruction of Gaza’.
