As a parent of a two-year-old who’s currently fascinated with dinosaurs, I often find myself on the floor surrounded by miniature dinosaur toys. Our latest family outing even took us to a fossil park, all thanks to our little one’s prehistoric interests. So naturally, when I stumbled upon a TikTok trend dubbed “dinosaur time,” my curiosity was piqued.
However, this trend was nothing like I expected. Instead of something directly related to dinosaurs, it involved videos of people stuffing their faces with heaps of leafy greens. That’s the whole gist of it.
The trend was initiated by a TikTok user known as @sahmthingsup, who essentially challenges viewers to consume large amounts of spinach, kale, and similar greens quickly to intake their nutrients like vitamins and antioxidants efficiently. The name “dinosaur time” cleverly alludes to how herbivorous dinosaurs would have consumed vast quantities of vegetation.
Exploring Dinosaur Time, TikTok’s Newest Craze
The creator of this trend shared in her video, which has now amassed over 4 million views, that she devised this approach as part of her quest to adopt a healthier diet. She describes her method as a straightforward, no-nonsense way to quickly get her greens in, claiming it to be the ultimate life hack for her dietary goals.
Dietitian Alyssa Smolen spoke to CBS News and expressed her support for this quirky method. She mentioned that it’s much simpler than the traditional salad preparation and could be a compelling alternative for those looking to streamline their diet.
However, Smolen also noted that consuming these greens raw and in such a manner might not allow for optimal nutrient absorption. She explained that salads often include oils and nuts because these fats help with the absorption of the nutrients found in vegetables.
It seems that the “dinosaur time” method might not be the most effective way to consume leafy greens after all. Adding some olive oil might help, but it also made me think this could be a clever trick to get my dinosaur-loving son to eat more vegetables. Maybe if he thinks he’s eating like his favorite dinosaurs, he’ll embrace his greens more enthusiastically.
I’ll keep you updated on how this experiment turns out.
