It’s common to criticize children for their outbursts, but perhaps they’re onto something worthwhile.
Julia Stepowska, who is a mother herself, certainly believes so. She went as far as creating a business aimed at allowing parents to have their own tantrums. After all, everyone needs a way to vent their frustrations.
And that’s how Tantrum Party came into existence.
“The concept of Tantrum Party emerged from discussions with other moms about how our kids freely express their emotions without any reservations — something many of us wish we could do,” explained Stepowska, a coach, breathworker, and leader of mothers’ circles, in an interview with Kidspot. “Not necessarily in the middle of a grocery store, but in a safe space where we can truly let go.”
“Tantrum Party offers a chance to escape your mental clutter and dive into your physical sensations, helping to shift intense energy while also fostering mindfulness and connection with your inner self in a playful, supportive environment,” she added.
This event involves a group of parents standing in a circle where they can freely express their pent-up emotions such as anger and frustration.
“We got on our feet and danced energetically to some fantastic tunes, as if we were at a festival,” Stepowska described to Kidspot. “I recommended actions like punching the air, wildly shaking our heads, and stomping our feet, but ultimately everyone chose movements that felt natural to them.”
‘Tantrum Parties’ Are a Hit With Stressed Out Parents
According to her, participants visibly felt relaxed and happier after the session, clearly enjoying the release.
“You could see they relished the chance to reconnect with their own feelings and with each other,” she noted.
While I’m not a parent myself, I definitely see the appeal of such an event for releasing negative energy. It seems we all could benefit from this today—despite often being told it’s inappropriate to show anger or other strong emotions.
“Many adults were raised to view their emotional reactions as something negative,” Stepowska observed. “It’s possible to train your body to welcome emotions instead of seeing them as something to fear.”
So if you and your friends or family need an outlet for stress, consider skipping the rage room and organize a tantrum party instead.
