Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, speaking to his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdul-Hyan by phone, strongly condemned the attack on the Iranian embassy in Syria and called the incident a serious violation of international law.
He appreciated Iran’s initiative not to target regional and neighboring countries.
China’s foreign minister said he is sure Iran will handle the situation well while protecting its sovereignty.
Iran’s Foreign Minister said that Iran is aware of the regional tension and has no intention of further tension.
The Chinese Foreign Minister also contacted Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan by telephone. The Chinese Foreign Minister said that China is ready to work with Riyadh to avoid further tensions in the Middle East.
The Saudi Foreign Minister said that China is expected to play an active and important role in the current situation.
