Disney World Lawsuit: Man Claims ‘Permanent Catastrophic Injuries’ After Ride

By Miles Harper

During a visit to Walt Disney World, one visitor did not experience the magic typically associated with the park. According to a lawsuit reported by CBS News, Eugene Strickland claims he suffered “permanent catastrophic injuries” after an incident on a water slide at Blizzard Beach.

The incident, which reportedly took place in July 2021, prompted Strickland to sue the theme park. He alleges that he experienced both physical and emotional damages while riding the Downhill Double Dipper water slide.

At the time of the incident, Strickland’s weight was 334 pounds, which exceeds the ride’s weight limit by 34 pounds.

Visitor Claims Severe Injuries from Water Slide Accident

According to the lawsuit, Strickland was thrown from his inner tube during the ride due to its “exhilarating speeds,” a detail reported by People magazine, which also reviewed the lawsuit documents. This phrase mirrors the official description provided by Disney for the ride.

Disney’s own description of the ride states: “Disappear into a black hole and plummet 50 feet downhill at exhilarating speeds. Hurtle through darkness, then emerge just in time for the big splashdown.”

Strickland asserts that after being ejected from the tube, he struck the hard plastic of the slide, which he claims caused him significant physical injuries. These injuries reportedly include “disability, scarring, disfigurement,” and also led to “mental anguish” and a “loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life,” as per CBS News.

Strickland accuses the park of negligence, arguing that the staff at Blizzard Beach should have warned him about the potential risks associated with the slide.

People magazine further reports that Strickland accused the park of knowing about the slide’s risks, which he referred to as a “safety hazard” and “concealed trap,” yet failing to address or warn him about these dangers.

As of now, Disney has not publicly responded to the allegations. The lawsuit is set to go to trial by jury in May 2027.
