This month marks another distribution of Social Security checks. The Social Security Administration (SSA) follows a precise payment calendar each month to aid recipients in managing their finances with predictability. Variations in this schedule may occur if the designated payment dates coincide with weekends or holidays.
Adherence to a Strict Payment Timetable
SSA recipients can usually expect their payments to follow a consistent annual schedule. These payments are dispersed throughout the month based on several factors including the type of Social Security benefits received, the date you began receiving checks, your birth date, and whether you are receiving multiple types of SSA payments. Typically, the schedule is as follows:
- Wednesday, June 11: For those born between the first and 10th of the month.
- Wednesday, June 18: For those born between the 11th and the 20th of the month.
- Wednesday, June 25: For those born between the 21st and the 31st of the month.
Payments for Retirement and Disability are issued on these dates. If you started receiving benefits before May 1997, your payments are scheduled for the third of each month, regardless of your birthday. Additionally, if you receive both Supplementary Security Income (SSI) and retirement benefits, these too are paid on the third. Exclusive SSI recipients receive their benefits on the first of each month.
June’s Payment Schedule
As per the Social Security payment schedule, the SSA will distribute payments as outlined above. However, this month has some variations. SSI recipients might have noticed a double payment last month—one on the usual first of the month and another on May 30.
SSI recipients should understand that this extra payment is not a ‘bonus,’ but rather their benefits for June, issued early due to June 1 falling on a Sunday. Thus, the next payment will be on July 1.
