TikToker’s Prison Routine Goes Viral: You Won’t Believe Why People Are Jealous!

A Glimpse into Daily Life at Peterborough Prison

A former inmate has given us a peek into her daily routine while incarcerated, and it’s not as grim as you might think.

TikTok user Jodie (@jodieandjail), who identifies as a recovering gambling addict, posted a video where she walks through a typical day at Peterborough Prison in England. Her description has elicited quite a few unexpected responses from her audience.

Morning Routine

Jodie explained that inmates are allowed out of their cells for breakfast at 7:10 AM. They have 20 minutes to eat, which can be done either in their cells or in a communal area with other inmates.

Following breakfast, inmates have the choice to exercise in a small courtyard, weather and staffing permitting, or remain locked up. Jodie emphasized that the exercise is light, mostly walking, and stressed the importance of seizing the opportunity to get outside, as it might be the only chance that day.

“Definitely take that chance because it might be your only time outside today,” she advised in her video.

Moving Through the Day

About 30 minutes later, the inmates participate in a “mass movement,” which Jodie describes as moving in groups with the guards to their next activities, which could be educational classes or work assignments. The day includes designated times called “free flows” at 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM where inmates can move about more freely within the facility to reach appointments or activities.

“Free flow is when you can walk around the prison at certain times,” Jodie elaborated. “So, if you have a scheduled appointment, you need to be ready to move at the free flow time that corresponds to your appointment time.”

When lunchtime arrives, another mass movement brings everyone back to their wings to eat, again with only twenty minutes allotted for the meal.

“You get a whole twenty minutes to eat your lunch,” she commented, noting that it was more time than she had at a previous summer job.

Afternoon and Evening Schedule

Post-lunch, inmates are locked up for over an hour, during which some may have visits or other appointments. Following this, there is another mass movement to resume work or educational activities.

The schedule repeats with another round of exercise and free flow, though Jodie noted that additional exercise time is rare and going outside again is typically not permitted. This reinforces the importance of taking advantage of morning outdoor time.

The day concludes with dinner and then lock-up for the night.

Viewer Reactions

Despite the strict routine, the response from viewers was surprisingly positive, with some finding the structured schedule appealing.

“The cost of living is so high right now, this actually seems relaxing,” one viewer commented.

“There have been times in my life where I would have loved this. The punishment is just staying in your room for hours. Oh no, what will I do?” another sarcastically remarked.

However, not everyone was thrilled with the early start to the day, with some commenting specifically about the early breakfast time.

“I’m deeply offended by how early breakfast is,” one viewer joked.

Another suggested, “Seriously, if potential offenders knew they had to get up at 7:10 every day, it might make them reconsider their actions.”
