The way you label your significant other’s contact in your phone can reveal much about your relationship.
It’s common knowledge that everyone has their unique approach to saving contact names. Take my friend, for instance, who meticulously records each contact with their first and last name—yes, that includes his significant other, relatives, and close friends. This methodical approach is more a reflection of his organizational habits than the depth of his relationships.
On the other hand, another friend of mine uses emojis alongside the names of her contacts. For example, she has saved my contact with a pen and book emoji because I love writing and reading. While this definitely captures aspects of who I am, it doesn’t necessarily convey the essence of our friendship.
How Your Partner’s Contact Name Reflects Your Bond
Regarding her boyfriend’s contact name, let’s just say it includes emojis that hint more towards the physical aspect of their relationship than the emotional. Does this mean their relationship is purely physical? Not at all. But it does suggest they enjoy a playful, light-hearted dynamic.
As for me, I’ve saved my significant other in my phone as “Baby” with a heart emoji—it’s simple because he’s my everything.
So, is there any truth to the notion that the way you name your partner on your phone says something about your relationship? Possibly, in some cases.
Eloise Skinner, a psychotherapist and author, explains, “Since the name saved in our phone is a visual representation of our partner and reminds us of our connection with them, using personal jokes or nicknames could signify a deeper or more intimate bond,” she shared with The Independent.
But does this mean that people who opt for more formal names are in less meaningful relationships? I’m no expert, but that seems unlikely. Everyone has their own style.
I explored Reddit to see how others save their partners’ names in their phones. In a thread on r/AskReddit, users were asked, “How is your partner listed in your phone?” The responses ranged from humorous to sweet and everything in between.
Here are a few of the responses:
“’mah wife’ with a picture of Borat in his infamous swimsuit.”
“Manzanita (means ‘Little Apple’ in Spanish), which was the nickname I gave her when we first started going out more than eight years ago. We’ve been married for seven.”
“Dopamine dealer ”
“Just their first and last name.”
“Sexy thang.”
“Just his name. I used to have three hearts next to it, but after a fight, I deleted them and just never added them back, lol.”
