$1,700 Checks Drop in This State on August 21: See If You Qualify!

By Calvin Baxter

A particular state in the U.S. is gearing up to distribute a one-time financial boost to its residents this month. Stimulus checks and similar payments represent a straightforward method for state and local governments to provide immediate financial relief to their citizens, easing the strain caused by the current economic conditions. Although these payments are not permanent solutions, they do offer temporary relief while longer-term strategies are being developed.

Immediate Financial Relief Through Stimulus Payments

The impact of one-time stimulus payments was highly visible during the COVID-19 pandemic. From March 2020 to March 2021, under President Biden’s administration, three separate stimulus checks were sent out as part of the Economic Impact Payments (EIPs) program during a period of unprecedented unemployment rates akin to those seen during the Great Depression.

The last of these payments, which provided $1,400, was claimable in the most recent tax filing season. Since then, there have been no additional federal stimulus checks issued, despite ongoing speculation about potential new payments ranging from $2,000 to $5,000. However, various states have initiated their own targeted stimulus efforts.

Upcoming $1,700 Payments for Eligible Alaskans

Residents of Alaska have something to look forward to. If you meet certain criteria, you can expect to receive $1,702 soon. This payment is possible thanks to the Permanent Dividend Fund (PDF), a program established over four decades ago by the Alaskan government to distribute a portion of the state’s mineral and oil earnings among its residents.

The initial batch of these PDF payments is scheduled for distribution this month. According to the Alaska Department of Revenue, those who are listed as “Eligible-Not Paid” as of August 13, 2025, will receive their payments on August 21, 2025.

To qualify for this payment, residents must meet several criteria:

  • Maintain residency in Alaska
  • Have lived in the state for at least a full year with no intention of moving
  • Have been physically present in Alaska for at least 72 consecutive hours in the past two years, unless absent for a valid reason
  • Not have been incarcerated for a felony in the past year
  • Not have been convicted of a felony or two misdemeanors since 1997, or any misdemeanors in the past year

Additional Payment Dates for Alaskan Residents

Alaska will continue to distribute PDF payments through the end of October. For those not included in the August 21 distribution, the following dates have been set:

  • Applications marked as “Eligible-Not Paid” as of September 3, 2025, will be paid on September 11, 2025
  • Applications marked as “Eligible-Not Paid” as of September 18, 2025, will be paid on October 2, 2025
  • Applications marked as “Eligible-Not Paid” as of October 13, 2025, will be paid on October 23, 2025

While Alaska’s PDF is a well-established program, other states are rolling out new one-time payment initiatives. For instance, New York residents who have had or will have a newborn in 2026 might be eligible for a one-time BABY stimulus check of $1,800, as part of the state’s efforts to support maternal and infant health.
