$1,800 Stimulus Checks Are Coming: Find Out If You’re Eligible in This State!

By Calvin Baxter

Stimulus checks serve as a direct and effective means for both local and federal governments to deliver immediate financial aid to their citizens, helping them manage urgent expenses. Although the last federal stimulus payments were issued in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, various states have carried on with their own initiatives to distribute stimulus funds, with one state preparing to send nearly $1,800 to its residents.

Federal Assistance During COVID-19

During the COVID-19 pandemic, stimulus checks proved crucial in supporting Americans as they faced unprecedented income and job losses, with unemployment levels reminiscent of the Great Depression. From March 2020 to March 2021, under President Biden’s administration, three rounds of Economic Impact Payments were distributed at pivotal times. The most recent tax season marked the final opportunity for eligible individuals to claim the third payment, valued at $1,400, originally announced in 2021. Since then, there have been no further stimulus checks issued by the federal government, though state-level initiatives continue to provide financial assistance during economic downturns.

Alaska Residents to Receive Nearly $1,800

Residents of Alaska have something to look forward to. The state’s Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD), managed by the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation, distributes annual payments sourced from the state’s profits from oil and mineral resources. This year, the payments, which began in June and will continue through August, have increased by 30%, totaling $1,702. Eligibility for these payments is governed by several criteria set by the Alaska Department of Revenue:

  • You must be an Alaska resident.
  • You have resided in the state for at least one continuous year.
  • You must have spent at least 72 continuous hours in Alaska over the past two years if you had a valid reason to leave the state.
  • You have not been convicted of a felony in the past year.
  • If you have a prior felony conviction or two misdemeanors since 1997, you must not have committed any misdemeanors in the past year.

Payment Schedule for Eligible Residents

Residents who applied for the dividend by March 31 of this year and meet all eligibility criteria can expect their payments soon if they haven’t already received them. The payments are scheduled as follows:

  1. Applicants listed as “Eligible-Not-Paid” as of June 11 will receive their payments on June 18.
  2. Those listed as “Eligible-Not-Paid” by July 9 will be paid on July 17.
  3. Applicants listed as “Eligible-Not-Paid” by August 13 will receive their payments on August 21.

As per this timetable, two-thirds of the applicants have been paid, with the remainder expected to receive their funds within the next two months. To check the status of your payment, you can visit the fund’s official website. Although unique to Alaska, this initiative is a prime example of how state programs can effectively support their residents, particularly in times of increasing living costs. However, it’s important to note that Alaska’s relatively small population of approximately 600,000 people allows for more generous per capita support.
