Stimulus checks serve as a quick and effective method for both state and federal governments to provide financial assistance to citizens during economic hardships or crises. Typically, these payments are issued as one-time relief based on current adversities faced by the populace. However, certain states have established annual schemes to distribute these funds. For instance, residents in this particular state can look forward to a $1,700 stimulus check arriving in their bank accounts by August.
Pandemic Prompted Federal Stimulus Initiatives
Contrary to widespread speculation that a new series of federal stimulus checks are on the horizon, with reports suggesting various amounts, the last official issuance was during the COVID-19 outbreak under the Biden Administration. During this period, three Economic Impact Payments were disbursed to help Americans navigate the severe job losses and unemployment rates reminiscent of the Great Depression era.
The most recent of these payments, which provided $1,400, was claimable up until this latest tax filing season. Although no forthcoming nationwide stimulus initiatives have been declared by the Trump Administration, the recent enactment of the Big, Beautiful Bill will offer specific individuals one-time payments. Notably, the newly introduced ‘Trump Accounts’ will grant $1,000 to families with newborns between 2025-2028 to promote early savings for their children’s future.
$1,700 Benefit for Eligible Alaskans
While no new federal stimulus plans are currently under consideration, residents of Alaska have a forthcoming payment to anticipate. With a population of about 600,000, Alaska’s unique demographic and natural riches, including minerals and oil, allow for specialized state-specific financial programs.
The Alaska Department of Revenue administers the Permanent Dividend Fund (PDF), which distributes annual payments to Alaskans from the state’s mineral earnings, a program in place since 1980. This fund aims to benefit as many residents as possible with minimal eligibility requirements.
This year, the PDF will disburse $1,702 to eligible Alaskans. Qualification criteria include being an Alaska resident, having lived in the state for at least 12 consecutive months, and spending at least 72 continuous hours in the state over the past two years if temporarily absent for valid reasons like education or military service. Additionally, applicants must not have been convicted of a felony in the past year or have any misdemeanors in the past year if they have a felony or two misdemeanors on record since 1997.
Timeline for Payment Distribution
Distribution of the PDF started in June and will extend into August. The initial batch was released on June 18 for those marked as “Eligible-Unpaid” as of June 11. If your status was “Eligible-Not Paid” by July 9, you should have received your payment by July 17.
Residents can check their payment status on the PDF’s official website. If your status is still “Eligible-Unpaid” and you weren’t paid on July 17, expect your check by August 21, contingent on maintaining the same status by August 13. New applicants had until March 31 of this year to apply; otherwise, they must wait until next year to participate in the program.
