Today’s Lunar Update: September 26, 2025

Currently, the moon is in its waxing crescent phase located in the astrological sign of Scorpio. It will transition into Sagittarius after 9 p.m. this evening.

According to Moongiant, “The waxing crescent moon today has a 20% illumination. This is how much of the moon is lit up by the sun. The amount of illumination changes daily and can shift by up to 10% in a single day. On September 26, the moon is 4.4 days old.”

To give you an overview, a complete lunar cycle is about 29.5 days long and includes eight phases: New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Last Quarter, and Waning Crescent. We are currently in the early stages of this cycle.

Exploring the Waxing Crescent Moon Phase

The waxing crescent phase is the second phase of the lunar cycle, following the new moon. During this phase, the moon begins to be lit up more by the sun, increasing from 0% to 50% illumination, and typically lasts about a week.

As NASA explains, “This silver crescent moon occurs when the part of the moon that is illuminated faces away from Earth, with only a small segment visible to us. Each day, as the moon orbits, this illuminated part becomes more visible, and the moon rises slightly later than the day before.”

The Waxing Crescent Moon’s Journey through Scorpio

For most of today, the moon resides in Scorpio—a deeply intuitive and intense water sign.

As explained by AstroSeek, “When the moon is in Scorpio, you might feel a compelling urge to delve deep into your emotions. You seek significant emotional interactions now more than ever, even if it requires challenging changes. Superficial relationships won’t satisfy during this phase, as they don’t provide the necessary depth.”

Later in the evening, as the moon moves into Sagittarius, expect a noticeable shift in energy. Your focus may shift from intense emotions to exploring life’s broader purpose, possibly igniting a desire for new adventures.

AstroSeek notes, “With the moon in Sagittarius, there’s a need to constantly seek out new goals or philosophies. You might find safety in having a purpose or mission that infuses life with meaning. This placement tends to bring an optimistic outlook, helping you believe that situations will improve, even in difficult times.”

Symbolism of the Waxing Crescent Moon

Various spiritual traditions and ancient cultures view the moon as a mystical entity linked with growth and renewal, with each phase carrying distinct symbolism.

The waxing crescent moon, in particular, symbolizes new beginnings, hope, and inspiration. During this phase, you may find yourself more driven or caught up in visions of what you hope to achieve. It’s an excellent time to set goals and start new projects, as the energies of the moon support growth and development.
